Which CLEP exams may I take? The "Academics" tab at my.ciu.edu lists the CLEP tests accepted by CIU (see "Policies"). Most students attempt to CLEP out of ENG 1110 ENG 1111, Math 2310, Historical Perspectives I (HIS 1210), Historical Perspectives II (HIS 1211) and Foreign Language elective credit.

May I take more than one CLEP exam at a time? No, the scheduled time for each CLEP test allows for one exam only.
When should I take a CLEP exam?
- *Important: All CLEP exams must be completed within one year of a student's matriculation to CIU.
If I score well, but not well enough, may I retake an exam? Yes, but you must wait three months before retaking an exam (new policy as of Oct. 2014).
What office does CLEP testing, how often are they offered, and do they offer only certain exams at certain times? CLEP testing is administered by the Academic Success Center once a month on Mondays. CIU offers all CLEP exams and is an open testing site for CIU and non-CIU students.
Do I have to take my CLEP exam at CIU for it to be accepted by CIU? No. When testing at another location be sure to have your scores sent to Columbia International University.
What is the cost? $80 ($85 as of 7/1/17) to CLEP (credit card only) and $25 to CIU.
What can I do to prepare? CLEP is administered by the CollegeBoard. CollegeBoard provides aids in preparation for the CLEP. These resources are available through their website at clep.collegeboard.org. The CLEP Official Study Guide is also available in the Academic Success Center.
Which math CLEP test should I take? Many of our students take the College Math because it satisfies the requirements for MAT 2310, and provides three additional elective credits.
