Library Computers

The main student computing lab is located in the library.  Computers are available on the first and second floors.  Each computer is equipped with Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise Suite (includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more!). All computers require login: students enrolled in classes use their unique MyCIU username/password to login.  The IT Service Desk is the primary support desk for student issues.  The IT Service Desk is located on the first floor of the library opposite the Library Service Desk. Students may sign out a laptop for their use by visiting the circulation or reference desks.  There is a multi-function printer/copier available in the Library for printing in color or black and white  There is also a printing computer next to the printer on the library lower level. 

 Memorial/Founders Labs

 There are also four computers located in the Memorial and Founders Labs and a multi-function printer/copier available for black and white printing. Students should see the IT Service Desk in the library if they experience any technical difficulties or contact IT via IT Support

File Storage

Students are encouraged to use their Google Drive cloud storage which is provided in tandem with their personal Student Email accounts (“”). Students and guests are also welcome to use USB storage drives or other personal storage methods.

Computer Classroom

Located on the 2nd floor of the Ridderhof Building, this classroom contains 15 computers with one instructor station, scanners and multimedia projector. Accounts are available for current students and alumni.

Alumni and Guest Usage

CIU administration recognizes the occasional need for alumni and guests to access the computers in the Library for activities such as internet, printing, sermon preparation and other ministry communications. If you are not currently enrolled in courses at CIU, please see the IT Service Desk for instructions on obtaining temporary access to the lab resources.  Printing is available for a nominal fee.

*Usage of transparencies is strictly forbidden.

Guest and Alumni Access

Visitors and Alumni are allowed limited access to computer lab resources based on availability. Access includes internet and printing services (printing charges apply - see "Printing" section above). Visitors who would like to print should get a printing card from the IT Service Desk.

 To obtain a temporary login, visit the IT Service Desk in the Library during regular coverage hours. After presenting a valid photo ID, you will be asked to fill out a "signup" sheet before receiving your temporary login credentials.

 University Wi-Fi is free for all visitors (see below).


Guests and visitors will be denied access to the Computer Lab resources and services for any of the following infractions:

  • Use of login credentials of a faculty member, staff, or student
  • Refusal to abide by lab rules of usage or conduct
  • Refusal to comply with IT staff directions in the event lab seats are not available for current students

Student Computing Labs in the residence halls, Founders and Memorial, are provided strictly for the use of currently enrolled CIU students. Lab computers are also available in McQuilkin.

Personal Computers

Please refer to the Internet Access section below if you wish to connect personal computers to the university network.

ResNet: CIU's Public Internet Access

Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests have the opportunity to connect their personal electronic devices (computers, tablets, smartphones) to CIU's high speed internet access network called ResNet for academic and campus visitation needs. Wireless internet is available in every building on campus. Residence halls have wired outlets in the rooms for physical connections if necessary.

How to connect

  • In the residence halls, simply connect your computer to one of the wired outlets in your room using an Ethernet cable.
  • For wireless access, look for and connect to the CIUWifi wireless network.

Your computer must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Windows XP or later, or Mac OS X 10.3 or later
  • At least 10mpbs Wired Ethernet, or 802.11b or g Wireless card
