Position Summary

Crescent Hospice is seeking compassionate students to serve as Patient Companion & Administrative Volunteers. This opportunity allows students to earn internship or service-learning hours while gaining meaningful experience supporting hospice patients and their families. Training is provided, and volunteers enjoy flexible scheduling. 

Description

Volunteering with Crescent Hospice provides students interested in nursing, social work, psychology, counseling, and other healthcare-related fields with hands-on experience in end-of-life care. Volunteers play an important role in providing comfort, companionship, and administrative support while helping improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Opportunities are available in direct patient care, administrative support, music ministry, veteran services, and other specialty volunteer roles. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide companionship and emotional support to hospice patients.
  • Assist patients through conversation, games, reading, and other meaningful activities.
  • Support the care team through administrative tasks such as filing, mailing, and bereavement program assistance.
  • Create cards, gifts, and special memories for patients and families.
  • Participate in music, veteran, or specialty volunteer programs based on individual skills and interests.
  • Support Crescent Hospice’s mission of providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
  • Complete all required volunteer training and orientation. 

Qualifications

  • Understanding and support of the hospice philosophy.
  • Compassionate, caring, and respectful attitude toward people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to pass required drug screening and background checks.
  • Specialty volunteers must possess appropriate licenses or certifications when applicable.
  • Desire to serve patients and families with compassion and professionalism.
