Job Summary

Motivated student seeking an internship to gain hands-on experience in community programming, facility operations, event coordination, and public service while developing professional skills in recreation management and customer engagement.

40 hours per week; must equal to a minimum of 400 hours over 10 weeks

Interns receive a weekly paid stipend of $400

Supervisor: Operations Superintendent

Program Eligibility & Submission:

  • Applicants must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education; dual enrollment during high school years will not be counted toward the one-year completion requirement
  • Students enrolled in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management or a related field
  • Complete an internship application
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Interview with Operations Superintendent and Park Directors

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily park operations, including phone and email communication
  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons, participants, and staff
  • Utilize recreation management software for registrations, scheduling, and recordkeeping
  • Create and manage program registration forms and participant information
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and administering youth and adult leagues
  • Recruit, support, and communicate with volunteer coaches
  • Help coordinate and lead coaches’ meetings, player clinics, and draft events
  • Develop and maintain practice and game schedules
  • Order, inventory, and distribute program equipment
  • Stock, operate, and manage concession stand operations
  • Respond professionally to patron concerns
  • Assist with planning, promoting, and executing special events
  • Support budget development, tracking, and basic financial reporting
  • Assist with sponsorship outreach and community partnerships
  • Help maintain parks, fields, and facilities to ensure safety and cleanliness
  • Design and update marketing materials, including flyers and digital content
  • Assist the IT/IS department with basic hardware and software support
  • Work with the accounting department on accounts payable, reporting, and budget review

Qualifications:

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to work with diverse populations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Basic administrative and technical skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong listening skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging or high pressure situations
  • Creativity and initiative in promoting programs, leagues, and special events
  • Previous parks and recreation or related experience preferred
